JW Marriott Parq Vancouver - September 2024
JW Marriott Parq Vancouver
My relationship with the JW and its sister property, The Douglas, started before they even opened.
In 2017, via one of the many hospitality industry silent auctions I participate in over the course of a year, I bought a certificate for two nights in a Suite in the JW and two nights in its sister hotel, The Douglas.
It was love at first sight. The JW delivering a polished and upscale experience and The Douglas with its low-key chill vibe and under the radar luxury. Neither hotel had been open for even a month at that time. And so the love affair began.
Since then, I’ve returned to both properties several times, and each visit elevates their place in my memory. But this trip was about the JW.
Sitting on the east side of Downtown, immediately next to BC Place Stadium, its location, near the hip Yaletown neighborhood, serves as a gateway to restaurants, nightlife and retail.
As with any great hotel, the tone is set the moment you get out of your transportation.
- Attentive and friendly bell staff? Check.
- Proper greeting at the front door? Check.
- Well trained and efficient front desk staff? Yep.
- Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff in all the bars and restaurants? Yes again, but more on that later.
One of the first things you notice when you walk through the door is that the hotel has the classic JW hint of luxury. A subtle vibe and tease, suggesting there is so much more to come.
As a brand, any JW Marriott I’ve ever experienced has delivered on that promise and this one is no exception. I like that.
Our certificate was for a 1 Br. corner suite with views of False Creek. Yes please.
But there’s more.
Access to the Bonvoy members lounge is on the 5th floor, as is all the conference space. Exit the elevator on 5 and you’re just steps from the large and accommodating, Bonvoy lounge. The perfect spot to quietly enjoy complimentary breakfast, all-day snacks, and an afternoon cocktail hour with complementary bites and a wine and beer cash bar.
Walk in the other direction, and you’ve entered the conference center with 60,000 + sq feet of conference space, including 13 event rooms and 22 breakout rooms, all shared by the two hotels.
The JW is a must add to any short list for consideration when looking to Vancouver as the destination for association and corporate meetings, conferences and trade shows and, my personal favorite, incentive programs.
It offers anything and everything you might need.
Restaurants in the hotel -
Just off to the right of the lobby you’ll Honey Salt - a bistro-style restaurant with a casual, neighborhood ambiance. The bar in Honey Salt is always hopping with good energy and friendly service.
Head up to the 6th floor and the garden park between the JW and The Douglas, and you’ll find the Parq Vancouver's sixth-floor rooftop steakhouse,The Victor, with a menu focused on Pacific Northwest seafood and specialty steaks— a sophisticated space with an elegant bar and attentive service. You won’t be disappointed.
These are just two of the eight restaurant and bar options in the two hotels, including options in the Casino.
D/6 Lounge
Honey Salt

From the beginning, my sales contact has been Michael Parsons, Director of National Accounts. Friendly, personable, helpful. I could throw a couple more adjectives in, but the short answer is you’ll like working with him. I know I do.
Favorite Local Restaurants
Rodney’s Oyster House
My first stop on any visit to Vancouver is Rodney’s Oyster House. Nothing fancy, it’s an oyster bar and restaurant in Yaletown, the old industrial warehouse district that’s now home to bars, restaurants, retail and condos.
Half the fun of being there is experiencing the interaction between the staff and their customers, as noted by the wine pour. The waiter will stand by to see how you go about getting the first drink of your wine.
If you’re not a fan of oysters, no worries. There’s always two types of house made showder, fish & chips, a pasta option or two and halibut. There is no bad decision.
Robba da Matti - West End
Robba da Matti has become my personal favorite go-to Italian restaurant when in Vancouver. So many choices, so little time.
Vancouver is a foodie destination that you shouldn’t take for granted. There is something for everyone.
Goodbye for now, Vancouver…
